The Guild was established in 1974 originally as Oahu Crafts, with the intention of giving artists and handcrafters in Hawaii opportunities to exhibit and sell their work. From the very beginning, the organization strived to distinguish itself by incorporating educational displays and demonstrations at all of its events.

The Guild is known for its high standards of quality, which are maintained through a rigorous screening procedure, as well as ongoing standard and quality reviews for all members. Open invitation screenings are scheduled at the Spring, Summer and Fall Fair events.

The PHG organization produces several educational  and promotional art and fine
craft events in the state of Hawaii every year.

Our Festivals have been the premier craft events  in Honolulu for over 32 years.
At present, the Pacific Handcrafter's Guild outdoor festivals are held at
Thomas Square, the site of the first major craft event in 1974.  In 2004
Pacific Handcrafter's Guild celebrated its 30th year of offering fine arts and crafts
to the people  of Hawaii and the visitors to her island shores.

The many craftspeople, who over the years have participated in the PHG

Festivals, and indeed, all craft fairs in the parks, are truly indebted to the founders
of this guild, as well as the City and County of Honolulu and the Department of
Parks and Recreation whose generous contribution of time and effort has
allowed craftspeople to exhibit, educate and share their efforts with the community.

                Pacific Handcrafter's Guild Mission Statement

Pacific Handcrafter's Guild is a non profit membership corporation formed to foster cooperation amongst all people interested in conserving and developing handcrafts in the Pacific Islands.

It is our mission to encourage a wider appreciation of these crafts while providing the public with a better understanding of the contemporary craft movement along with more meaningful opportunities to learn about and to relate to fine arts and handcrafts.

The active members of the Guild are working craftspeople who have organized to cooperatively define, raise and maintain standards of design and craftsmanship, encourage creative expression, share information and professional concerns, and bring their creative product to the public and so enrich the quality of life of our island community.
